Gary Kendrick Taylor, 73, of Roanoke Rapids died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Taylor was a Halifax County native, the son of the late William P. Taylor and Delia Kendrick Taylor. He lived his entire life in Roanoke Rapids, graduating from Roanoke Rapids High School, class of 1954. He was stationed in Oklahoma during his two years in the US Army. Mr. Taylor was retired from Champion International.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Taylor and his sister, Betty Sue Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Bryant Taylor; his daughter, Alice Nottingham and her husband, Blackwell, of Richmond, VA; a brother, Donald Taylor and his wife, Ophelia, of Wilson; a sister-in-law, Frances Taylor of Norfolk, VA and many nieces and nephews which he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, which is handling the arrangements. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Kirk Taylor III officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Taylor’s service to his country.
